This project comes from DEEP SPACE SPARKLE. They did it as a paper composition but I wanted it to be a drawing and crayon resist watercolor lesson for the last two art periods of the year. The second graders loved learning how to draw a "complicated" pirate ship with several sails and lots of details.
After drawing our ships, we colored with crayons.
Last step was to watercolor paint the entire picture over the top of the crayon, creating a
crayon resist project, always a favorite technique. Too bad I had to send these home and could not display them in the hall, they were amazing!
